Parking lots monitoring is an Internet of Things solution which allows to know if a parking place is occupied or not.

  • Sensors are connected.
  • Real time view of the status for each single place.
  • Utilization statistics.
  • Car type/model detection.

Sensors

Sensors are based on the ESP12 chip, and are joint together with a magnetometer and a LoraWan chip. The software optimizations and the big battery allow the sensor to be operational for long time. Depending by the configuration, the design of the case is prototyped with 3d printing processes, which allows to reduce the time to market.

Backend

Sensors data are ingested to a central hub which pre-process, analyze and persist input data. With machine learning and artificial intelligence additional information are extracted to enrich the original data set.

Communications are encrypted. Backend is authentication devices with two factors authentication.

Parking lots monitoring @Zurich Maker Faire 2018

I’ve been presenting this project at the Zurich Maker Faire 2018. Check out this link to watch my speech.

Status

After the Maker Faire I took the decision to pause the active development and to focus on defining the business case, and to check if I am in the position to open a start-up out of this project.

Unfortunately the business angel I contacted pushed me back (they said I should have already a running company, at least one client and a minimum viable product), and I could not find anybody really interested in a collaboration.

Due to this I decided to pause this promising project and to focus on something else. Maybe in the future I will restart it – who knows!
